Welcome to the course!

“Measuring What Matters” workshop is a crash course in the Theory of Change methodology where participants create logic models as a means of describing and measuring their work.  Nonprofits build a better case for funding when they understand how to articulate the breadth and impact of what they do each day.  Logic models are multi-purpose – in that their contents can be pulled out and used in funding applications and they also serve as visual roadmaps that organizations can share with their internal and external stakeholders.

Theory of Change is an impact evaluation that uses a specific type of methodology for planning, participation, and evaluation that is used in the philanthropy, not-for-profit and government sectors to promote social change. Theory of Change defines long-term goals and then maps backward to identify necessary preconditions.

Nonprofits and grant-makers have a responsibility to the individuals and communities they serve to be as effective as possible.  In an environment of limited resources, those nonprofits that can demonstrate their impact are better positioned for funding and sustainability.
